MissFit Costume Creation

An investment by the Advantage Creative Fund has helped Debbie Murphy focus her business, MissFit Costume Creation.
 
After working as a dressmaker for several years, Debbie decided her niche was in the creation of costumes and original clothing.  An opportunity arose to purchase several hundred costumes and combined with her own designs Debbie successfully built up a costume hire company.

However, the growth of both sides of the business meant that Debbie effectively was managing two full time businesses; costume design and costume hire.  As her passion has always been the design of clothes, she decided to sell the costume hire business and concentrate her efforts on creating original costumes and clothes.

With the tagline “Making A Statement” Debbie’s business is about creating clothes that allow people to stand out in the crowd.
The money from ACF has helped Debbie invest in new machinery and improve her website.  Improvements to her website were much needed to enable her to sell her costume commissions internationally.

Recent commissions from entertainers have included the Abba Honeyz , a dynamic tribute duo recreating the sights and sounds of Abba in a sensational show. As Debbie says, “My customer base ranges from individuals looking for something original to wear, through to tribute artists, actors, dancers and drag queens.  As people look for escapism I hope that my costumes will provide an opportunity to look and feel like a star.”
